China Neodymium Rare Earth Permanent Magnets Manufacturer

Neodymium permanent magnet can bring smaller motors and generators with higher property, but its problem is that its manufacturing process is expensive and multi-step.

Researchers from Northeastern University declare that they have invented a cheap and green manufacturing process with only one step to produce SmCo magnet. The decline of manufacturing cost of strong magnets will bring a new type hybrid automobile with smaller and cheaper motors. Also, it enables permanent magnets to be used in field of aerospace and aviation.

C.N. Chinnasamy, the chief scientist of Microwave Magnetic Material and Integrated Circuit Centre of Northeastern University, announced that SmCo with the strongest property among rare earth magnetic material can be manufactured by recyclable chemicals. This manufacturing process can be applied to mass production, and its manufacturing cost will be cheaper than that of existing manufacturing methods.

Chinnasamy says: “China permanent magnet can be used in small motors and generators with high property which can work under high temperature environment, which is quite important to NASA and the Ministry of Defense. With this manufacturing method, this material can bring economical manufacturing cost.”

Chinnassamy carries out this research under the leadership of Vincent Harris who is the director and chief researcher of this research centre.

Harris proclaims that SmCo magnet is suitable for use in aviation turbines because its temperature is too high for other rare earth magnet. Not only is the cost of Chinnassamy’s one-step manufacturing process cheaper, but its chemicals used for producing SmCo permanent magnets is recyclable and environment friendly. Therefore, it is very suitable for use in large-scale production.

These researchers invented nanotechnology to manufacture these rare earth magnets which can displace other existing expensive and multi-step metallurgical technology. Among existing methods, metallurgical technology fuses Co and Sm with accurate proportion, but they have to be fused under vacuum environment in case of oxidation, which greatly increase the cost.

According to USA Northeastern University, Sm and Co, with accurate proportion, dissolve in a kind of high temperature solvent. During the dissolving process, they produce magnet nanometer blocks, extremely tiny doublets whose size is only10x100 nanometer, subsiding at the bottom of the solvent. Then, they cover PVP which can avoid oxidation on nanometer blocks with black magnet powder forming. This magnet powder can become strong permanent magnet in strong magnet field.

Other method, used for producing nanometer block doublets, also can work successfully under high temperature, but under room temperature, property of this rare earth magnet will be poor. However, researchers of Northeastern University declare that, their methods can work well no matter it is under room temperature or high temperature, which can, therefore, bring small motors equal large engines.
